Today, on International Lace Day, I’m presenting Italian needle lace Aemilia Ars, which I studied in Italy.

I live in Hungary, travel often to Italy, and my hometown — the one I love most — is Saint Petersburg.
It might seem hard to choose a location to tag on a day like this. But not for me. I always mark: Saint Petersburg, Russia. Yes, it’s my native city — but how much of Italy echoes in its appearance! There’s a reason why Saint Petersburg is often called the Northern Venice.

Lace, to me, is more than just a craft. It’s a delicate thread that connects cities, countries, and time itself.

In 2025, the “Il Punto Antico” Association is celebrating its 30th anniversary. This is a significant event not only for the Italian craft community but also for the town of San Giovanni in Persiceto (Emilia-Romagna region, Italy), where, for all these years, true masterpieces have been created at the embroidery school.

In June 2025, the jubilee exhibition of the “Il Punto Antico” Association will take place in the town of San Giovanni in Persiceto. As part of the celebration, the association representatives have invited me to conduct a workshop on Hungarian embroidery “Höveji csipke“. This will be a one-day workshop, lasting approximately 4-5 hours. Materials for embroidery will be provided. By the end of the workshop, you will have created a small lacy flower.

In February 2025, I visited Italy and had the great pleasure of presenting the embroidery “Höveji csipke” in Marsala, Sicily, at the RiscopriAmo il Ricamo association. Thank you, Francesca Genna, for the invitation and the wonderful program. The whole day was filled with events and new connections.

At the embroidery school, led by Francesca, I presented my works with the “Höveji csipke” embroidery to the embroiderers, shared and demonstrated the main stitching techniques. It was a pleasure to see the genuine admiration and interest in this Hungarian embroidery. It received many compliments. There are plans for me to return for a longer period and conduct a workshop on “Höveji csipke” embroidery over several days.
